Computer Vision Research Intern

SRI International
Full-time
On-site
Princeton, New Jersey, United States
$30 - $45 USD yearly

Overview

SRI’s Information & Computing Sciences Division is taking on some of the world’s most important challenges, creating leading-edge technology solutions that have revolutionary impact.   Our researchers are redefining the way human beings interact with machines and with one another through machines, as we define what’s next in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computing for the real world.

The Center for Vision Technologies (CVT) develops and applies its algorithms and hardware to be able to see better with computational sensing, understand the scene using 2D/3D reasoning, understand and interact with humans using interactive intelligent systems, support teamwork through collaborative autonomy, mine big data with multi-modal data analytics and continuously learn through machine learning.

CVT's Vision Systems Lab is seeking an Intern with experience in optical sensing, signal/image processing, and machine learning, particularly in developing algorithms to enhance signal-to-noise ratios and identify the chemical classes based on Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis. The role involves advancing current approaches and improving the detection accuracy in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently and be effective in a small team or individual tasks.

The Intern will need to be local to the Princeton office and will work a hybrid schedule.  We anticipation the intern working during the fall semester.

Responsibilities

  • Developing calibration and enhancement algorithms to improve FTIR signals.
  • Training machine learning models to detect chemical objects with multispectral imaging
  • Conducting experiments to test and validate developed algorithms.
  • Preparing and interpreting data, including developing tools for simulation and annotation.
  • Collaborating with teams of engineers and scientists to advance prototypes to products.
  • Generating reports, test plans, presentations, and other deliverable documentation.

Qualifications

  • PhD/MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline.
  • Experience in FTIR analytical instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in signal and image processing to enhance low SNR conditions.
  • Strong machine learning skills, with experience working with large and noisy datasets.

The salary range is: $30-$45/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program. SRI also has a competitive benefits package, to view details please go to https://www.sri.com/resources/benefits/.
